Sterile Services is the heart of the hospital. We are responsible for providing the service of decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packing and the sterilisation of reusable medical devices for use in clinical areas and ensure the safety of our patients. This requires a lot of patience, care, attention to detail and, not to forget, a sense of humor.
Originally from Wanganui, I ventured over to the UK on a two year working holiday visa in 2001. I worked as a Personal Assistant for several companies including a Hospital. I met my husband, who is from West Yorkshire, at a music festival and from there we ended up getting married and eight years later we moved back to NZ here to the lovely Hawke’s Bay.
Before coming to Kaweka, I was a Loan Coordinator within a hospital sterile services department. This was a new position which I built up from scratch and which ended up running like a smooth oiled machine! I had been in that position for around five years when I knew I was ready for a new challenge, so I was extremely excited when I was offered the position of Sterile Services Team Leader at Kaweka Hospital.
Kaweka Hospital is going to be amazing for Hawke’s Bay with so many opportunities. I love the Kaweka way “making it better” and having the opportunity to be involved in this amazing development from early on has boosted my confidence so much that I am filled with energy. I am very excited about being part of a team that is so supportive, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. We spend half of our life at work so, to me, it’s really important to love what you do and have fun whilst doing it.
